Rivers to Ranges FW 3
Rivers to Ranges FW 3 was a challenge weekend with any fish weighed over 2kg+ ( excluding eels & SSH) received an extra 40 bonus points per fish. Once again, the weather seemed to play a big part with south-westerlies seeming to slow down the bite. For those that put in the time in some cold conditions there were a variety of fish caught.
Southern Hawkes Bay produced some nice fish Friday evening for a few clubbies while it was still NW. With a pick n mix of fish for those that fished Hastings and Napier side. As far as I’m aware no one traveled any further.
Fish Caught:
- 37 Kahawai with a few over 2 kg
- 3 Barracouta
- 4 Gurnard with James B catching a beauty Pin of 1.22 kg
- 2 Parore both pins by George almost nudging 2kg
- 12 Moki – 1 pin by Hamish 3.46kg and several just under the 3kg mark by George and Jayden
- 1 whopping Redcod by Ian 2.14kg
- 4 Snapper – these seemed to disappear for the weekend with Kane being the only one to find these
- 2 Topes measured and released off the sand
Heaviest Gurnard – James Benge 1.22kg and taking the $150 Guncity & Fishing voucher
Heaviest Snapper – Kane Wrigglesworth 0.79kg
Best Other – Pin Blue Moki 3.46kg Hamish Nichol
Average Kahawai – 1.48kg Ian Lopdell
Best junior – Xavier Benge with 3 nice kahawai
On a tough weekend to fill bins, standout fisherman were George and James B. George with 5 moki, 2 parore and 5 kahawai . James B with a Tope released , 4 kahawai and 3 very nice gurnard. After a solid weekend from George he leapfrogs Kane into 1st place. Kane 2nd and James B not too far behind in 3rd. I’m sure there will be plenty more lead changes as the year progresses.
FW 4 kicks off November 17th with more info on this closer to the time
The next Guncity & Fishing jackpot fish is the Heaviest kahawai 2.5kg+ starting @ $50 on FW4
Looks a bit wet next week, but hopefully the weather sorts itself out after that. Good luck for those fishing in between.
