Rockgas Hams FW5
Hi Guys , just a wrap up on FW 5 our Hams weekend, a big thanks to Rockgas Hawkes Bays for sponsoring FW 5 and to all the work behind the scenes to organize another successful Hams weekend.
The weather had its say again with all areas being a challenge and a bit of creative thinking for those that fished the majority of the weekend .
26 members fished with :
41 Kahawai being caught – With the biggest ham going for average Kahawai , it was good to see plenty weighed in
Gurnard 10
SSH 1
Moki 3
Kingfish 1
Snapper 3
Trevally 1
1 Bronze whaler video release
2 conger eels video released
And a crayfish of 0.765kg a new Painia Club record caught by George F @ town reef on Friday night, Alan Park had previously held the record from 31/10/1999 @ Diners beach . Awesome George
Prizes for half Hams
1st Gurnard Pin and a monster southern Hawkes bay Gurnard of 1.325kg caught by Justin – Justin copped a bit of flak for his bin of redcod the previous FW but this was pure quality this time around
2nd Gurnard Pete K Pin 1.08kg caught By Pete K a beauty of a gurnard caught at Snapper Rock Friday night I believe – Special mention to Pete helping with the hams and chickens, icecreams frozen good etc in the weeks leading up to weekend.
3rd Gurnard 0.7kg Ian Lopdell with a well deserved gurnard caught napier side
Note That Jayden also caught a pin Gurnard which was weighed after weigh in @ 1.24kg – big slip on the way home made the weekend a bit longer for him and Kylie.
1st Snapper – .67kg Kane Wrigglesworth . His 3 snapper although were small were the only 3 weighed in , another FW strike from the Snapper.
Best Other – George F 5.63 kg Kingi – good to see a few of these starting to turn up
2nd Jame P Moki 2.35kg on the napier side
3rd Dion 2.305 Moki on the napier side
Note that George also caught a Pin Moki of 3.08kg and Gary K with the only SSH of 3.785kg
Best Junior Lokan with a respectable Kahawi of 1.73 kg
1st kahawai Pin 2.715 Karim , lucked out on Sunday for a token fish on way to weigh in, needed to be a bit skinnier for average.
2nd Kahawai Mark Ives 2.17 kg
3rd Kahawai Phil D 2.105kahawai
Average Kahawai for a monster of a full ham went to Steve Gorst who had a casual fish Sunday and weighed in a 1.51 kg fish collecting the average kahawai and a big ham to boot. Great stuff
Standout bags were George with a bag of kahawai, a moki , a king fish and a new club record crayfish . 1 kahawai and Moki Pin . Pete K throwing his weight around with 5 nice gurnard with the heaviest being a pin of 1.08 kg and Justin is worth a mention too for a ripper of a gurnard of 1.325 kg . Once this NW El Nino finally kicks in Gary K I’m sure will start sweating over his impressive gurnard record of 1.58 kg being broken . My money is on that it gets beaten this season , time will tell.
Well done to all those that fished in what seemed like a challenging weather weekend there was plenty of fish at weigh in with some quality and variety.
Attached are FW 5 points, the total points to date and the variety leaderboard. 1st and 2nd on the leaderboard remains very tight with Kane holding a slim lead over George of 125 points. Only 55 points separates the top 4 Golden Oldies on points also, I’m sure this will heat up once the fishing and weather improves post xmas.
Attached below are the current heaviest cup species so far after 5 FW for those looking to target a bit of silverware in the 2nd half of the season. Fishing predominately gets better in Hawkes Bay later in our club season, all cups are well and truly up for grabs ;
After 5 Field Weekends:
Heaviest Moki – Hamish 3.46kg
Heaviest Gurnard – Justin 1.325kg
Heaviest Kahawai – Karim 2.715 kg

Heaviest Snapper – George 5kg

Our next FW isn’t till January 19th , looks like the weather is starting to sort itself out later this week, fingers crossed this is the new trend . Hope everyone has a great xmas with family and friends and look forward to some fishing reports for those throwing a line out in between.
Cheers Karim Brown Club Captain
