Fishbites FW 9 Results
Attached to this post are FW9 points, Leaderboard Points and FW 8 points breakdown. Thanks to our awesome weighmaster Nikki for throwing this all together.
Well done to everyone who fished FW 9 sponsored by Fishbites. Can’t say I can recall having a weekend with close to 50 gurnard being weighed on the scales.
Friday night brought a settled sea with the majority of the 20 Clubbies fishing locally. Pete and Ian were the exception who both had success at Mahanga with snapper and the only 3 Trevally weighed in.
Gurnards had been a regular catch leading up to the weekend and even a FW couldn’t scare them off.
Saturday cooled down with a southwest blowing through but this did little damage to the sea Saturday evening once it had blown through.
With most topping up the bin Saturday night once again.
48 Gurnard, 44 Snapper, 30 Kahawai , 3 Trevally, 2 SSH and a handful of jack mackerals crossed the scales.
Good hauls of Gurnard seemed to be along Awatoto, marine parade and Whirinaki with fisherman having to sort through a lot of smalls to get a healthy bin.
Snapper was down on numbers but one feels the temptation of a bin of tasty Gurnard was too high for most.
Those that targeted Snapper managed some nice pan sized snappers with the odd 2kg one mixed in.
Prizes :
- Heaviest Snapper 2.86kg George F
- Best other Pin Trevally 1.65kg Pete K
- Heaviest Gurnard 1.04 Pin Hamish Nichol
- Average Kahawai Ian Lopdell 1.52kg
- Best Junior Lokan with a .645kg Gurnard
Bizarre that snapper, average kahawai and gurnard went to the same clubbies 2 weekends in a row. Rigged, skilful fisherman or chance. This is yet to be confirmed.
There hadn’t been a change in the top of the leaderboard since FW 3 but after 9 weekends we have a new leader with George pushing 600 odd points ahead. Great to see juniors and woman making the most of a double points weekend . Dakota takes the lead in the juniors with only a mere 125 points separating her Xavier and Lokan. Sue Kemsley pushes ahead in the ladies category also. I’m sure there is some ongoing battles within the leaderboard also for bragging rights. Batton down the hatches we are in for a gripping last 3 weekends.
The elusive, jinxed, hoodoo Snapper Jackpot was once again not struck and is at $350 for the next FW . There is a wee bit of a break until FW 10 that kicks of April 12th. Although April normally brings a few undesirable winter species, it can also bring diamonds. This year the fishing has been fantastic , in my opinion the best for a considerable amount of time. The only thing lacking has been consistent snapper size. Is late March/ April the month?
We have a few long weekends in between the next fishing weekend, hope you get a chance to have a ripper of an Easter and Anzac weekend with family and friends and hopefully a fish or 3 in between.
Look forward to another successful weigh in mid April.
