The weekend was our final fishing weekend for the season “a fish anywhere in NZ” sponsored by Craftys, reminder that they have a big sale from tomorrow onwards.
Bay of Plenty was a popular choice with a very generous forecast and healthy tides for those looking to keep their feet dry on the stones.
The majority getting into some healthy bags of snapper, gurnard, kahawai and trevally. With more than a few toothy critters released for those burning the candle at night.
The keen of the keen headed to the Far North, although reports were the 90 mile was slow , there were still some nice snapper caught. George and Tareq cleaning up on Saturday in the harbour both getting their bag limit of trevally up to 4kg. Wow wee
Weather from the south made fishing tough this late in the peace for those hustling locally, stumbled across a red cod in the weigh in book which is surely an ominous sign that winter is knocking.
Well done to everyone who had a go this weekend fish or no fish.
Heaviest Snapper went to Hamish 5.215kg with a very healthy bag of sizeable snapper
Heaviest Gurnard Cath .69kg also with a nice mixed bag of kahawai, trevally, snapper,gurnard and kahawai
Best Other Trevally 4.09kg George with a showstopper bag of 23 fish
Best Junior  Dakota with a couple of trevally and a snapper! Great stuff!

A good time of year to service some reels, tidy up some gear and for those still with an itch to plan a winter trip away, I’m sure locally will still throw up some fish but places like bay of plenty will fish better in the coming months for those looking for a trip away.
Whispers of a super El Nino kicking in over winter to January, fingers crossed the boys are on the money here, a spring and summer of NW sounds very exciting.
